You Heard It Here First: Erin McCarley

Erin McCarley was born in Dallas and cultivated her music career in San Diego, but she now resides in Nashville, home of country music and great songwriters. And right now, she is fitting in as one of the top pop artists on Music City. McCarley was on the Ten out of Tenn compilation recently and her debut album, Love, Save The Empty, on Universal Republic, comes out in early 2009 (January 6 to be exact). Folks, you need to keep an eye on Miss McCarley, because not only does she know how to craft infectious pop, but she delivers it with a humble charm and with a compelling voice. Here are a couple of samples courtesy of the label:

You heard it here first: Guns ‘n Roses, “Chinese Democracy”

Here it is, kids: the long-awaited, oft-delayed title track to Guns ‘n Roses’ Chinese Democracy, which finally has a release date of November 23. Of this year. No, seriously.

So how it it? Um, well, it’s…interesting.

Interesting. That’s the biggest cop-out adjective in a music writer’s arsenal. And yet, that’s as positive a word as I can come up with upon first listen. I feel the same way about this as I did when I first heard “You Could Be Mine,” the first single released from the Use Your Illusion albums. It reminds me of long-buried ’90s bands like Monster Magnet, and the guitar solo…doesn’t Tom Morello have patent pending on that stuff?

There was once a time where I was dying to hear what mad scientist Axl had been cooking up in his lab. Those days came and went roughly ten years ago. Now it’s on the level of cautiously optimistic. You know there’s a “November Rain” sitting in there somewhere. There has to be…right?

STP returns full-on with a tour

Ot was only a matter of time. But hey, thank God on high that Stone Temple Pilots have regrouped. What’s more, the band is taking it out on the road for a summer tour of 0f dates. In the meantime, Scott Weiland’s “other” band Velvet Revolver is finishing up its European tour, but since Scotty and drummer Matt Sorum are acting all bitchy towards one another, there may be no more of that group in the near future.
