Cornershop can thank Lou Reed for that guitar tone and those three chords. “Brimful of Asha” for you.

The Arctic Monkeys don’t think they have much to say in regards to global warming. Other musicians are feeling the same way in regards to the Live Earth show. But I’d just like to pull one quote from the piece that I find important here:
And the singer from 80s pop sensations The Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant, attacked the arrogance of pop stars who put themselves forward as role-models.
“I’ve always been against the idea of rock stars lecturing people as if they know something the rest of us don’t,” he was reported as saying by British music magazine NME.
To that, I can only happily say, “Take that, Bono.”
Cocaine took David Bowie a lot of places in the ’70s. One such place was on Cher’s TV show at the time. This bizarro medley starts out with the then-current “Young Americans” and then freaks out completely, as if the coke was in control of the band. Hilarious, and somehow once again Bowie survives the disaster cleanly. Hell, the Young Americans album was his own calculated raping of plastic white soul, so appearing on Cher’s show was just another step to his next big thing.
…let’s not forget that a couple of them actually managed to pull together some pretty enjoyable solo singles.
Melanie C (with Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes), “Never Be The Same Again”:
Emma Bunton, “What Took You So Long”
Geri Halliwell, “Look At Me”
(I’d love to also post videos from Victoria Beckham and Melanie Brown, but, frankly, I’m just not a very big fan of their material.)
The once-beautiful Nico now reduced to a strung out junkie performing The Velvet Underground’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties.”
