Road Warriors 6

Rock legends Aerosmith have been around, literally. But the band will play its first ever show in India on June 2 as an extension of their tour of Europe and Dubai.

Maroon 5 is set to release their long-awaited sophomore effort on May 22, but won’t begin a full-fledged tour until September. However, it was just announced that the band will open for The Police on July 10 in Miami.

The Campus Invasion Tour was set up to raise awareness of the ongoing genocide in Darfur, with three concerts in some of the nation’s largest college towns (Austin, Atlanta and Philadelphia). Confirmed bands are Dashboard Confessional, Gym Class Heroes and Augustana. The tour will help raise funds for the Save Darfur Coalition, an alliance of 180 organizations responding to atrocities in Sudan, Africa.

Acclaimed Tennessee rock band Kings of Leon are back with their first album since 2004. RCA Records will release the new album, Because of the Times, on April 3 and among stops on the band’s forthcoming tour are appearances at both Coachella and Bonnaroo. Def Leppard will not be touring with Kiss after all. The band instead announced that they will be playing North American dates with Foreigner and Styx. Throw it all into a blender if you like, because no matter who the other bands are on the bill, it’s still a draft beer and mullet fest.

British pop songstress Lily Allen’s career has exploded almost as fast as Barry Bonds’ upper body. After wrapping up the MTV “Discover and Download” tour, Allen will kick off a new headlining tour in Houston on March 16 after two appearances at SXSW. Warner Brothers hard rock band Mastodon recently sold out a US headlining tour and were nominated for a Grammy. The band will celebrate it’s #1 status on metal radio and charting on active rock radio by playing a few more US dates before heading to Australia in April. US dates are as follows:

The Rock The Bells hip-hop festival has announced that Rage Against The Machine will perform three exclusive shows, two of them on the west coast with the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. The third is Rock The Bells inaugural venture into New York City on July 28 at Randall’s Island.

UK band Art Brut will return to North America for a small tour previewing material from its new album, the follow up to Bang Bang Rock and Roll. The new album is due out in June, but for those in the states who can’t wait that long, check them out at:

Minnesota musician Wain McFarlane is dying from kidney disease, and several musical acts are banding together in an effort to raise money for Wain’s health care and living expenses. Lifehouse, Cyndi Lauper, Soul Asylum and Mint Condition will play at The Myth in Maplewood, Minnesota on March 10 for the benefit.

Just like the summer days are long, there is no shortage of classic rock bands playing warm-weather shows so the older generations can rock out too. It was just announced that Def Leppard and Aerosmith will headline Bayfestin Sarnia, Ontario in July. Tickets are available at www.sarniabayfest.com.

Sire recording artists Armor For Sleep hit the road last week supporting Taking Back Sunday and Underoath. The band was signed to Sire after their indie label release sold 200,000 copies and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers. Not too shabby. The dates are:

Five For Fighting is another group (okay, it’s one dude, John Ondrasik) that always seems to be working. FFF hits the road again for a tour that runs from April 17 in Bakersfield, CA to May 19 in Minneapolis. More dates will be announced soon at www.fiveforfighting.com

Regina Spektor will be touring in Sweden and Israel before heading back to the US beginning March 28 in Purchase, NY. She will then head across the country and back, including stops at Coachella in Indio, CA on April 28 and at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN on June 17. All dates are at www.reginaspektor.com

Bestival is setting up its lineup for what it calls “three days and three nights of music and merry mayhem” and that you can expect “hoe downs, high times, tea cakes, techno, folk and everything in between.” Sounds like a few days of music, smelly people and drugs to me. Announced headliners for the September 7-9 festival are The Chemical Brothers and the Beastie Boys.

A really cool lineup is shaping up for England’s Isle of Wight Festival from June 8-19. Among the partial confirmations are Snow Patrol, Keane, Paolo Nutini, James Morrison, and The Feeling.

And speaking of cool overseas festival lineups, the Oxegen music festival will take place July 7 and 8 at Punchestown Racecourse in Ireland and confirmed acts include Muse, Snow Patrol, My Chemical Romance, Arcade Fire, Scissor Sisters and Razorlight.

Aerosmith is working on yet another album, and between their days in the studio in June they will take a month-long “break” and head to Europe for a month of shows. This marks the first time Steven Tyler and the boys will have toured in Europe since 1999.

Is anyone surprised that The Police shows that have been announced are selling out in mere minutes? Sold out shows are Boston, New York, and some of the Canadian dates. Additional tickets will be going on sale this Monday for Giants Stadium in New Jersey, as sell as Seattle, Denver and Phoenix. As if this whole idea of a revival tour isn’t enough, the band is planning to write and record again soon. Hey fellas, let’s see how you all play together in the sandbox first.

The Fray continues to tour in support of their 2005 major label debut, How To Save a Life, and the band’s summer tour with Ok Go is already taking shape, kicking off June 11 in Minneapolis and running through August 5. Aside from Ok Go, other acts supporting the tour include Mae, Gomez, Eisley and Meese.

Pop mega-stars Maroon 5 are releasing the extremely anticipated follow up to their quadruple-platinum selling Songs About Jane this May. The new album will be called It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, and the band will then launch a full-scale tour in September.

Cobra Music recording artists and Chicago rock band Suffrajett has been described as raw, low-fi Afro-punk, garage glam, art punk, mental rock, garage rock and grunge hair metal. Man, that’s a mouthful. Anyway, the band and its label have announced two showcases at South By Southwest in Austin next month:

The Van Halen tour with David Lee Roth as the reinstated lead vocalist has been postponed indefinitely. Come on Mister Roth and Misters Van Halen, can’t you take a cue from the Police and put those gargantuan egos aside for one stinking tour?

This Sunday’s 79th Academy Awards show will feature performances from Oscar nominated artists including Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Melissa Etheridge, Randy Newman, Keith Robinson, Anika Noni Rose and James Taylor. The show airs at 8pm ET.

Remember when Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera ruled the pop airwaves and tabloids together? Now they are both generating publicity for different reasons. While Britney is having her head shaved and enters drug rehab facilities weekly, Christina keeps on looking hot and making music. After her GRAMMY performance a few weeks ago, Christina landed on the cover of Maxim and kicked off her North American tour this past week in Dallas, supporting her new album, Back to Basics. Support acts on the tour include Danity Kane and Pussycat Dolls.
