Madge hits the road…

…and The Chauffeur checks his calendar to see if he can make any of the dates.

According to the article on Yahoo, Madonna is threatening to turn the whole world into a dance floor…but it’s really less the whole world than a handful of dates in a handful of countries. In the States, she’s doing the Big City Boogie, hitting most of the usual suspects – San Jose, Fresno, Phoenix, Chicago, Montreal, Hartford, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Miami and Los Angeles – but not doing much for the kids in the sticks. Not terribly surprising, given her stature, but, still, it’d be nice if she hit some of the smaller markets as well…

Smells Like Courtney’s Broke

Okay, she’s probably not completely strapped for cash. But whatever her financial status may be at present, it’s probably going to getting a bit better, now that she’s sold off a 25% stake in the Nirvana song catalog.

“We’re going to remain very tasteful, and we’re going to [retain] the spirit of Nirvana and take Nirvana places it’s never been before,” Love told Rolling Stone.

And you can take that to the bank. Because if there’s one word that’s synonymous with “tasteful,” it’s Courtney Love.

Let “The Midnight Special” shine its light on me…

…but only via subscription.

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, Guthy-Renker – the fine folks who brought you all the infomercials for their Dean Martin releases, will be putting out several volumes of the ’70s and early ’80s music TV show, “The Midnight Special,” on DVD in a few months.

If you want to check out an episode guide to see who appeared on the show over the years, there’s one here, but there’s no official word on how they’re going to be issuing these shows, i.e. whether it’ll be in best-of sets or as whole episodes. You’d like to think it’d be the latter, since, just as an example, in 1975, there was an episode featuring performances by both Barry Manilow AND Kiss…or an episode in ’79 which featured Blondie, Robert Fripp from King Crimson, Robert Palmer, Bram freakin’ Tchaikovsky, and Rick James.

But, then again, there was an episode hosted by Seals and Crofts, too:

31 from Juliana Hatfield

If you’re a Juliana Hatfield fan, you might want to visit her website, as she’s once again offering up 31 never-before released tracks for downloading. She’s presenting them with an honor system, in which her site spells out the problems between record companies suing file sharers and file sharers wanting everything to be free. If you like, you can grab all the songs (or as many as you like) and keep them, or make a donation through PayPal of whatever amount you like in exchange. There are indeed plenty of good songs here to be heard, and for 31 cents you can’t beat ’em. No, I jest.

…But, sometimes, Awesome is AWESOME!

Screw Lollapalooza, man. This is the festival to attend.

Seriously, you find me any other non-charity event in the last decade to have a line-up that features this many awesome acts. I’m willing to listen. Any festival that includes Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey, the Strokes, the Pixies, Placebo, Madness, Scissor Sisters, Futureheads, the Editors, Beth Orton, We Are Scientists, and Babyshambles – a.k.a. Pete Doherty from the Libertines – makes me more than half-tempted to throw caution to the wind and buy two tickets to Spain, baby…
