Primal Scream fer real, yo

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie had the shit kicked out of him in an unprovoked attack last Friday. It caused him to be 12 hours late for a Top of the Pops scheduled filming. But wait,

A source said: “Bobby turned up for filming sporting two nasty-looking black eyes and a swollen nose. The band were scheduled to film their performance on Sunday morning but Bobby was in no fit state to be in front of a camera. He looked like he had taken one hell of a beating. Everyone was amazed he even turned up. It’s not easy to hold a note when your nose is broken.”

Yes, but it’s not hard at all to lip sync when anything’s broken. C’mon! I would have loved to see a beat up Gillespie miming for the cameras.

“Because you flirt shamelessly with another woman on national TV, THAT’S why!”

Add Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro to Hollywood’s ever-growing list of celebrities who are back on the market. Despite pledging their eternal love on MTV’s “Til Death Do Us Part” reality show in 2003 (a guaranteed pox on marital bliss, as a couple of folks named Simpson and Lachey will attest), Electra and Navarro are separating.

No reason has been given for the split…though fans of “Rock Star: INXS” will recall several suspiciously long camera shots of Navarro eyeing co-host Brooke Burke’s suspiciously long, bare legs…

Crossing the Atlantic and coming into the Baltimore harbor…

it’s the Virgin Festival.

Based on the annual festival of the same name in the UK, this version will be held on September 23rd at the Pimlico Race Course (home of the Preakness Stakes) and is being handled by promoter Seth Hurwitz, who books for Merriweather Post Pavilion as well as Washington, DC’s famed 9:30 Club.

Currently listed for the show’s line-up are the Who (okay, the Two, since it’s only Daltrey and Townshend these days), the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Killers, Gnarls Barkley, the Flaming Lips, the Raconteurs, Keane, Scissor Sisters, Thievery Corporation, New Pornographers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Wolfmother, Drive-By Truckers, Kasabian, and others yet to be announced. It’s really quite a “Who’s Who” of today’s modern rock, plus one of the bands who helped influence probably half the artists on the bill.

Tickets are $95…plus the inevitable service charge, of course…but, hell, with a line-up like that, who’s going to argue with the pricetag?

Don’t call it a comeback. Oh, wait, actually, DO call it that.

The Onion’s A.V. Club has put together a list of their 15 True Comeback Albums, giving everyone something to complain about.

Some of the selections are on the money, like Lou Reed’s New York, Johnny Cash’s American Recordings, or Steely Dan’s Two Against Nature…but putting John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy on the list seems iffy; it was a huge hit, but most critics complained that it was lackluster. Same with the B-52’s Cosmic Thing, despite being a gargantuan hit. Still, kudos for including Electric Light Orchestra’s 2001 album, Zoom, which was great, even if it was a commercial flop.

A few selections which deserved to be included but weren’t are Paul McCartney’s Flowers in the Dirt, Echo and the Bunnymen’s What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?, the Bee Gees’ This Is Where I Came In, Willie Nelson’s Across the Borderline, and, dammit, I stand by Rick Springfield’s Karma. I’ll even throw ABC’s Skyscraping into the fray, as well as Tears For Fears’ Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.
