What’s that? You say you need an excuse not to work…?

This ought to keep you busy for awhile: the as-snarky-as-they-wanna-be PitchforkMedia.com have taken it upon themselves to scour YouTube and compile a list of 100 Awesome Music Videos, complete with the link to each one.

I’m sure we’ll all have our favorites, but I have to give rare props to the site (I generally loathe their hipper-than-thou writing style) not only for including Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” but for calling out the guy playing air keys.

Also, someone should call David Hasselhoff’s agent; his cover of “Hooked On A Feeling” is cheesy enough to begin with, but the video – which appears to have about the same budget as those “Make Your Own Video!” booths they have at most amusement parks – is…well, if you don’t go watch it right now, you’re missing the biggest laughs you’re likely to get all day.

David Lee Roth gets southern on our asses

After seeing this bit on VH1’s Best Week Ever, I had to seek it out myself and share it with you all. Diamond Dave recently visited “The Tonight Show” to promote his new album Strummin’ With The Devil: The Southern Side of Van Halen (And why didn’t we get review copies of this?) and cranked out a redneck version of “Jump,” the video of which you can watch here. Thrill as Dave’s voice breaks! What won’t this guy do to earn a buck anymore? Are the royalties from the couple of hit albums he had and the VH days not paying enough anymore? Ah well. At least we can see that he sucks as much as the rest of the Van Hagar boys these days.

Shakira makes ya shake

Even I have to admit to enjoying Shakira’s latest single, “Hips Don’t Lie.” I’m not a fan of hers, but it’s a good groove in general. The news here, though is that Shakira tapped fans to make an alternate Internet-only video for the tune. It’s exclusively over at Yahoo Music – this article doesn’t give any links – but it’s gotta be some fantastic shit. Or not. Do any of you recall when VH1 had the contest to make your own video to Madonna’s “Vogue”? Oh those entries were quite the shit. And not in the good way, either. Good times, good times.

Leto’s still thinking you want to rock out to him

Jared Leto. Actor or musician? Who cares, I can’t stand him as either. Still he’s plowing forward with a new video from his band 30 Seconds To Mars. It’s apparently an homage to The Shining. Christ, not that borrowed idea again. Leto feels he can do some bragging, though, since his album’s sold a little over 130,000 copies.

“It’s nice to be seen as a legitimate example of how to do things the right way,” he said. “If the music is horrible, people won’t listen, but if it’s good some people will listen and will look beyond the stereotype.”

Ah, c’mon Jared, people are only listening for the novelty value, trust me. As far as the video is concerened,

The band is seen skateboarding through meandering hallways and performing at a 1920’s period ballroom party. When a member fails to stay away from a forbidden room, he is seduced by a ghostly apparition.

Eventually, the four musicians confront their alter egos as the video explores the idea of duplicity in a perhaps unintended parallel to Leto’s double career.

Let’s not get too deep here, people. It’s just a video that’s not even going to show up on Classic VH1 years from now.
