Here’s to my sweet Satan

As I continue my journey to dig into the depths of Satanic rawk, I figured we might as well stop by the song that possibly started all the “backwards Satanic messages” hooplah, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven.” You probably know all the supposed hidden messages in the tune when you play it backwards, but if you don’t, this site offers a nice interface that allows you to play the most evil part of the song forwards and backwards, complete with those ever-important lyrics to read along with, as no one would decipher this shit in a blind study. Still, it’s nice to know that Satan has a little tool shed for us all in which to make us suffer.

For more weirdness, Some guy wrote in to Jeff Milner’s site in 2004 to say that the entire song is one backwards message and includes the lyrics. There’s something to be said about fanatics. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s definitely something to be said.

Finally, someone understands what music downloaders want…

…and, unsurprisingly, it’s Rhino Records, who’ve already been catering to the music geek community for years with their Rhino Handmade label.

It hasn’t been publicized nearly enough, but if you visit the label’s website, you’ll see a link to a new section simply called “Digital.” It’s not a particularly glamorous section; in fact, the intro only consists of three sentences.

Sometimes great albums go out of print. It’s just a fact of life. Here are some from the Warner Music Group vaults that we’ve brought back as high-quality digital downloads.

The downloads are 99 cents per track, and they cover various genres, but those who’ve wanted to hunt up certain out-of-print discs but couldn’t afford the eBay pricetag will be giddy to hear things like Guadalcanal Diary’s Jamboree, Marshall Crenshaw’s Downtown and Mary Jean & 9 Others, the Dream Academy’s self-titled debut, or the Dead Boys’ We Have Come For Your Children will now have their chance. Selection is pretty limited at the moment, but here’s hoping the endeavor proves successful enough to cause the Warner vaults to be opened wide…

Now, there’s one thing you should note: as it stands right now, these tracks are available as WMA downloads for Windows users only.

Which sucks.

But, still, it’s a start…

You will bow before Lordi!!!

It’s official: Finland rocks…and rocks hard.

The oft-neglected European country took home the victory in the Eurovision song contest this year, thanks to the metal band Lordi and their song “Hard Rock Hallelujah.”

This is Lordi:

I’m sorry, but that’s awesome.

Europe presents us with Lordi, and who do we have to offer as our democratically-voted-upon superstar?

People, George W. Bush is not the only reason people think America sucks.

Bill Parsons, “She Blinded Me With Science”

I don’t know the first thing about this guy, I admit it…but you know how sometimes a person will do a cover song, and their interpretation of the song is just SO GOOD that you immediately want to know more about their original material?

This is that kind of cover. You can check out a sample of it here; it’s taken from his second (and, as far as I can tell, most recent), 2000’s Special Delivery, and it’s available for download on eMusic. Now that I’ve gotten this song (which I only found when, in a post-concert Thomas Dolby glow, I tried to find something by Dolby that I didn’t already have), I’m definitely going back for the whole thing.
