Kanye, Winehouse vie for Grammys

Does anyone even watch these things or even care about them anymore, for that matter? Who knows? At any rate, Kanye West and Amy Winehouse are leading the pack of Grammy nominees this year. Who will win? If Kanye doesn’t sweep everything he’s nominated in, will he once again throw his worn out race card? Will Winehouse show up drunk and disorderly? Again, does anyone care? I remember when I was a kid, the Grammy Awards were always sort of fun to watch. But it’s been a long time for me since it’s been that. For years, it’s just felt like nothing more than an opportunity for the industry to pat itself on the back than anything else. And with the state that the music industry is in nowadays, it feels even more desperate. That, and no one I personally give a shit for is going to win anything undoubtedly. Hooray.

Anyone can play a guitar

Or at least now anyone can tune a guitar. Gibson unveiled its brand new self-tuning guitar. It’s a Les Paul model and can tune itself in two seconds. The “Powertune System” was developed by Tronical and accoriding to the report,

“The Les Paul Silverburst model is to cost about $2,780 in Japan and $2,499 in the U.S., with self-tuning offered for $900 extra.

Powertune is also listed online for 899 euros, about $600, and Tronical says it can be installed on many different models of electric guitars without leaving a mark.

Ouch. Hmmm…maybe those good old fashioned guitar tuners that cost less and the free ones available online are still the sane way to go.

A so-called summit of music festival minds has gotten together and will be bringing a new event to the U.S. this summer. The event will take place August 8-10 in Vineland, New Jersey, but no acts have been announced yet.

Pop artist Kylie Minogue has apparently put her health problems behind her, and will head out on tour beginning in May 2008 in support of her tenth and latest album, X. The album has been released in the UK, but will not be available in the States until early 2008.

Mr. Prolific, otherwise known as Ryan Adams, has announced West Coast tour dates along with his band The Cardinals, in support of their new EP, Follow The Lights. Earlier in 2007, Adams and his band released Easy Tiger, which Time Magazine called a “career breakthrough.” This guy just doesn’t slow down. Here are the upcoming tour dates Continue reading »
