We should have known that it wouldn’t last. Andy Taylor is the first to leave the reunited Duran Duran, allegedly due to disagreements with the band’s management. Here’s the band’s official announcement, from their web site:
Jesus. Here we go again. Now, I’ll tell you why this really bothers me: as much as I love Simon, Nick, John and Roger, I worry that they are overwhelming the band’s sound, and as much as they may not like Andy, they need Andy, because he brings the ROCK, baby! My guess is that he probably heard about the collaboration with Justin Timberlake and said, “WTF?” And frankly, I can see why the band wanted to do it, and why Andy didn’t. Pity. I don’t think things will be the same after this. So, is it too early to make fun of them again, especially Andy? A Duran Duran fan actually tipped me off to these, a series of hilarious MST3K-style clips making fun of Duran Duran videos. As much as I love the band, these are awesome. Best of luck with the next record, guys…but be prepared for people to stop caring about you again. Nothing personal, just the nature of the beast, ya know. I’m sure you remember what it was like when Notorious dropped. Episode Two: New Moon on Monday

Those videos RULE! “Wild boys blub blub blub…”
“How ’bout a little fire, scarecrow?”
“Does my hair look okay? Of course it does.”
YES!!
i ain,t supprised he,s left. Anyone heard the new album? what a load of pants
Damn! Was a huge fan of Duran Duran in the early 80’s, then Roger left, then Andy, and I stopped listening to them. All 5 finally get back together in 2001, and I can finally dust off all my old LP’s, then Andy leaves again…WTF?????? Are you guys trying to send me to an early grave????
Hi there Guru, I fell lucky that I located this post while browsing for napster ruling. I am with you on the topic of Welcome back to 1985: Andy Taylor leaves Duran Duran, again. Ironically, I was just putting a lot of thought into this last Thursday.
I can’t even begin to tell you how big a fan I was of Duran in the 80’s. I lived for Duran Duran - and without overstating, I can honestly say that they were a religion to me. When Andy left, my loyalty to the band was fierce. It wasn’t like when Roger left - Andy leaving made me angry. How dare he do this to Duran Duran? As I got older, I continued to love the band but then something happened when Medazzaland came out - I loved that record but when John left - I felt my interest wane. When they re-formed, I was super-sceptical…and when Andy left again - I thought, what the fuck? Then when I heard that album and I thought, Andy Taylor might be the smartest man in the world.
Ha! Yeah, I’m not feeling the new album, either. There is an entire album - recorded with Andy - on the shelves though, and it sounds promising. Supposedly darker, harder, in line with Bloc Party and the Kaiser Chiefs. Why they chose to shelve it for this Massacre junk, I’ll never know.
