Hey there – don’t panic! We’re not suggesting your band breaks up; nope, not in the slightest. A break of the good kind (AKA, a getaway), could be exactly what you need to get those creative juices flowing. Whether you’re guys, gals, or both, some time away can really help reset any kind of writer’s block, bring groups closer together, and help you work better at doing what you love best. You guessed it, that’s performing and songwriting! If you’re in the States, the good news is that you don’t have to go far. What with band practice and time off for recording, we already KNOW you’ve used your vacation days, so grab a cheap flight, and head for a weekend in one of the following awesome cities.

New York

The Big Apple, New York, New York, The City That Never Sleeps… the city has so many names for itself, let alone things to do, that you’ll be completely spoiled for choice. Cramming it all into 48 hours is a little tough, though, so perhaps it’s best to focus on the typical music-lover’s favorite activities. You won’t be at a loss, considering that some of the world’s best venues can be found in the city, such as Irving Plaza, Radio City Music Hall, and the Apollo Theater. Vinyl fans will rejoice at Academy Records; you’ll be able to pick up rare copies from the artists who brought you together in the first place. Plus, just a short train ride away, you’ll find the super-hip Brooklyn, home to countless musicians, second hand instrument stores, and awesome dive bars. At the end of the day, you can discuss how inspired you feel over some traditional New York pizza!

Las Vegas

Vegas really is a place to let your hair down. When you’re working in the corporate world through the week, it can be difficult to break the chains and find decent material for your latest songs. Here’s where this place comes in! Whether you’re riding the rollercoaster inside of New York, New York, checking out a show, dancing until 6am, or, of course, hitting up the casinos, you’ll find something to do that’ll help you just relax with your band mates. Nobody wants to look clueless, though, and given that you only have a weekend in the city, you’ll want to use your time wisely. A casino like Vegas can show you the ropes of games like blackjack, slots and roulette, all online and available to play for free or for Bitcoin. You’ll be playing like a true rock star by the time you get there!

Los Angeles

Sure, it’s a cliche, but every band who wants to make it big should scope out LA at least once. Whether you’re lusting over the city’s top recording studios or doing a bit of sneaky starspotting, it’s the place to be to pick up on that famous vibe. While you’re there, pick up some new threads for stage wear; they sure know how to dress in this place! Grab drinks on Hollywood Boulevard, go take pics with your favorite musician’s “star”, or head out to Venice Beach to feel the sand in your toes and watch some spontaneous street performances. Who knows? Maybe you could even muster up your own!
