I was kinda hoping to see 'Johnny comes Marching home' in Stalag 17. The moment when everyone rejoices but for Sefton and the song concluding in a march around with Sefton finding a big clue. It was perfect.
And Snatch was necessary. Sure, 'Fuckin' in the Bushes' was awesome but I personally loved 'Golden Brown' playing as we pan across the crowd that gathers around Gorgeous George after he is knocked out. just plain Brilliant.

There is nothing better than getting out on the dance floor with a new pair of jazz shoes and putting on a show. I still get such a thrill from each and every performance.

Funny review. I disagree over the "prog" flashbacks, I personally find this entirely refreshing in contrast to modern classic-rehash (The Mars Volta, Blood Mountain, Comets on Fire, etc.). However, it seemed that you were focusing the "irritation" on the... "colorful" lyrics, which although I don't understand how it corresponds to a certain musical genre, I can understand people disliking them.

All right. Stay with me here. IS it just me, or are those beer bottles multiplying on the piano a different shape than the ones in the fridge he's drinking? I think that could indicate he's a bit more pasted than they want us to think. Also, later in the song he's back to one bottle on top of the piano. I think that means he cleared the bottles off (recycling bin?) and had more.

By my count, then, he's had at least six during the course of a three minute video. Possibly more. Then he was going to knock back champagne after that, until the guy in the Howie Long jersey--and it is, for sure--intercepts it.

He'll have to lift extra tonight to make up for all those calories!

Damn! Was a huge fan of Duran Duran in the early 80's, then Roger left, then Andy, and I stopped listening to them. All 5 finally get back together in 2001, and I can finally dust off all my old LP's, then Andy leaves again...WTF?????? Are you guys trying to send me to an early grave????

I admire Run DMC's business accumen but Run's House is just another Reality Hustle which is so obviously scripted (but it's nowhere near as bad as Snoop's Fatherhood).

I was sad to see Chikeze go, I really didn't like him prior to the Top 12, but he won me over with those two engaging performances.

I actually have thought for a while that David Archuletta has no chance in this competition as it goes along, he's cute, but I think he will wear on people over time. If he never would have lost a vocal chord he would have been even more amazing talent than he is (check the video on youtube from a lobby which he sings to some former idols at the age of like 12, ridiculous voice then)

At one point I WAS a huge Ramiele fan (can't quite remember when that was anymore), but she just has no clue how to use her abilities to their max, she likes to do what she thinks is neat or aligns with her own interests and not what could put her in the Top 3. She has such a capable voice, just never consistent throughout a song. Last time she did something noteworthy was in the first couple rounds of the Top24. Bye.

Brooke white is getting a bit tedious, she needs to spice something up a bit.

Carly Smithson, I find her annoying, but I actually like ALOT of what she has done, even when the judges don't. Total Eclipse Of The Heart was Hot (wake up Simon, usually he copies all of my critiquing). Very consistent.

The second Kristy Lee Cook started singing, I just broke out laughing, you sneaky little bimbo! Ya had to know she was safe if she nailed that song, and she knocked it out of the park. She has probably sang that 100 times at various events too, she is from Texas right? Unfortunately for her there are two songs she has performed well to this point, God Bless.... and Amazing Grace, is that right? OMG wake up America, she's got a bleep of a voice, WHEN SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE'S SINGING, which doesn't seem to be much.

Michael Johns was my favorite coming into the Top 24, I just thought he had the charisma & talent to win it all. I was wrong, he isn't consistent enough (not week to week, but throughout his performances), his two biggest highlights were both Queen songs and one was in hollywood week (which I thought was better in a rawer sort of way). He's still fun to watch, but he has some annoying tendencies when he performs.

Syesha Mercado just erks me. She has a voice no doubt, and she can lay it down. She is a step beyond confident, it's called ARROGANT. Some of the looks and comments she has made give that away all too well. She won't survive long, as she only does well when she can pick her genre/song type. Not much ability in being original, and thats why she is inconsistent.

David Cook, I thought he was the biggest douche coming into the Top 24. They just didn't show him doing anything memorable coming out of Hollywood week, and what they did show sounded not so good. Which leads me to suspect they were setting him up early to be a dark horse. After all what sells records? Kelly Clarkson or Chris Daughtry type music. I must say, I couldn't have been more wrong about him, he has great consistency and a creativity unrivaled in this competition.

Jason Castro: I just don't get it (to all the teenage girls, time to find an older man ;). Can we just vote him off already. (or not vote to get him off the show, geez!)

My Power Rankings:

David Cook, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, Brooke White, David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado, Kristy Lee Cook, Ramiel Malubay, Jason Castro

but I think Syesha will be voted off next, as she is already in the bottom 3, and it's about to be Country week again, no?

Sad thing is there is some REAL (already polished) talent here this year, but all that will happen is a CRAPPY pop record to sell in masses for the kiddies. Sigh.
They actually mentioned on the night of the original performance that David Cook's version was based off Chris Cornell's just before he sang it.

Not even the second coming of Christ is going to get that album released. I remember when Tommy Stinson's last album with his band Perfect came out a few years back...on his blog he was assuring people that the album would be coming out then, guaranteed. Does anyone even care after this point? I mean even perverse curiosity couldn't win out with it after this long.

Not even the second coming of Christ is going to get that album released. I remember when Tommy Stinson’s last album with his band Perfect came out a few years back…on his blog he was assuring people that the album would be coming out then, guaranteed. Does anyone even care after this point? I mean even perverse curiosity couldn’t win out with it after this long.

I realize that, by all rights, I shouldn't be offended, especially since I've neither reviewed nor even bought a White Stripes album, meaning that I'm arguably not part of the people he's bashing...except that, by virtue of my profession, I *am* part of that number, and I hate people who make blanket statements like that.

I ain't offended. Jack White didn't give two craps about my opinion of him before--and he doesn't now. The diff now is that he's not paying a PR machine to hawk his record to me.

This is the music biz now. Or the very near future of it.

We as critics need to adapt. Also, keep in mind, he's Jack White. He was once a no-name from Detroit. Many other no-names will have to use some means to knock Jack White off the top of the hill. It will be up to critics like us to discover and trumpet them. We can all be Lester Bangs writing about the Clash, and when they get popular and sell out (or punch the Von Bondies guy in the head and almost go to jail) we can go looking for the next one.

I hope PR people help me find the next Jack White, but if the rock world moves on without them, I will adjust and like Gloria Gaynor says, survive.

Am I nuts here? Am I too much of a contrarian?

Press: We love you, Jack White!
Jack White: You make me sick. (Spits lugey in press' face)

I don't quite understand his hostility. He generally gets a free pass. If he thinks it's hard to be a pop star, he should be Adam Levine for a day.
