Yes, Rolling Stone has trotted out another list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It seems like they do this every other year anymore. 500 is an awful lot, isn’t it? Ah well, nothing in the first 100 is even remotely new. Is this good or bad? You decide.

Yawn.
A) Is anyone going to read 500 entries…? That’s why most people cap their best-of lists at 100.
B) “Of all time”…? Then, dammit, where are “Jesus Loves Me” and “Happy Birthday”?
C) The fact that the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” only comes in at #486 makes the whole list suspect, anyway.
WHAT? “How Soon Is Now?” winds up at #48-fucking-6? Fuck them all. That’s one of the Ten Best Songs Ever. Hell, even PopMatters knows that, right?
Dear Mr. Thompson,
I am an avid fan of all things music. Also, I enjoy your articles on bullzeye.com. However, I perused your recent article on “Eight Bands that Should Break UP, ” and i found it absolutely revolting and unnecessary. I am a fan of music…some more than others. Yet, why destroy something just because it is not your taste? Red Hot Chili Peppers: a band that not only sounds better than any band live (excepting Nirvana in it’s raucous hay day), the band set the mood for me and my present wife on our first date. You call their music sometimes theraputic….I call it life changing! There records have sold…and still sell. Why? Because people enjoy their concerts and their music. Manilli Vanilli in concert anyone? Vanilla Ice new comeback release anyone? There are good reasons why these records and concerts were short lived. Yet, i apologize for bringing all this up to you….obviously it matters little what you think Mr. Thompson. I will see you at the next red hot concert!
