OK, so I wake up this morning and turn on the tube and flip through the channels, and when I land on VH1, lo and behold there’s the new INXS. Does anyone wanna place bets on how soon this stinky new version of the group ends up in the bargain bins or on the shelves of your favorite used store? This is definitely one case where the band shouldn’t have played on. I didn’t keep up with their search for a new singer when it was on TV, but all I can say is that new guy (even if I remembered his name, he’d still only be worthy of the name “new guy”) reeks.
The other day on the Opie and Anthony Show on XM radio, new guy and INXS did an interview, and new guy sounded like the most retarded “Man, I’m so mellow, and I really feel the music” kind of dude I’ve heard in a long time. It was obvious just from that that the guy isn’t in his element and this whole thing is pointless. INXS would be smart just to put itself to bed and completely forget this chapter. Ah, but I s’pose it’s just like Queen trotting out a fellow dinosaur as of late to replace Freddie during some concerts and people gettin excited about that. The baby boomers really are starving for those good old daze, aren’t they?

I gotta tell you, as cynical as I was about the whole reality show platform for picking a new frontman - and my suspicions were confirmed when they basically went with another guy who sounded approximately like Michael Hutchence - I really like the new single. He might be a brain-dead yokel, but the song sounds straight out of the “Kick” era. I ain’t saying I’m buying the new album - I haven’t bought a new INXS album since the sorely underrated “Welcome to Wherever You Are” - but I’m actually on the verge of considering it. Of course, I’ll need to sample it first…
P.S. The Queen thing isn’t the same; at least INXS have some new material to go with the recycling of their name.
I haven’t bought a new INXS album since the same one you mentioned, either. And I agree about the Queen thing.
The best Queen rumor I heard, which is the only way Freddie would have been done any justice, had George Michael fronting the band for a tour. Not to join the band, just a tour. That, my friends would have been sweet.
INXS is now back in the public’s collective consciousness, and for that, the show was a success. But if they think they’re going to be pop stars again, no matter who’s singing for them, they’re delusional.
Frankly, I’m not sure which is worse. New and Improved INXS or the nasty rumor I heard that the owning label is shopping around for an entire new band to put on the costumes and launch a Brand New KISS? Will ‘da search for more money trump reason every time?
I’m just curious how you guys feel about the bands sucess? The upcoming tour is almost completely sold out… they needed to add more tour dates, they’ve won several awards, the most recent being the VH1 award they took home last night… Pretty Vegas is a huge success and the rest of the Album completely rocks! For those of you still contemplating purchasing the album, it’s well worth the money. INXS is here to stay… and so is Jason Fortune!!
No thanks, I’ll pass. As far as what I think of the band’s success, the answer is I don’t. Call me a purist, but it’s just not the same group to me. The band’s doing what they want, so that’s fine, but you know, people would go see The Who perform and undoubtedly buy a new album from them as well, and I wouldn’t be impressed all the same.
